At the meeting of Pett Parish Council held on February 21 the Council heard that a new Parish Clerk had been appointed – Sarah Willoughby

Rother District Councillors reported that the local view was that council tax should be frozen for another year. However they warned that the government subsidy of £178,000 was a one-off.

Police Community Support Office Sharon Eldridge attended the meeting but had little to report. In response to a question she said that no action had been taken on speeding on Pett Road and pointed out that speed guns could not operate at night or when it was raining.

The Civic Service to be held in Pett Church on June 10 to which all local clubs and organisations will be invited.

Pett Level Rescue Boat.

The Queen’s Jubilee. (The Parish Council later decided that any event to mark the Queen’s Jubilee should be organised by the community.)

The Council also heard that after the heating problems with Pett Village Hall, POPPs was now back in business and that both the Chairman and the Clerk had attended a presentation on the Localism Bill, given by Rother District Council.

Amongst other matters the Council discussed the grants made to various local organisations and clubs and the Pett Village Allotments. In addition, the Council decided that the new Sussex flag, donated to the Parish Council by East Sussex County Council, would be given to Pett Village Hall.

Today, March 2, at Pett Church at 2:30pm, there will be a World Day of Prayer. The service has been compiled by the Christian Women from Malaysia, “Let justice prevail” and should be a colourful and inspiring time. The speaker will be the Rev Maureen Hindley and everyone is welcome.

Church Services on Sunday March 4– Parish Communion, St Mary & St Peter, Pett at 9:30am with David Wotton taking the service; Sunday Service at the Methodist Chapel at 10:45am.

On Monday March 5 Pett Village Hall Committee will be holding its AGM at 6:30pm at Pett Village Hall. All villagers are welcome.

At POPP’s on Tuesday March 6 there will be a workshop with Keith Osborne. In addition the organisers have decided to utilise the hall a little more by using part of it for games including: ball darts, basketball and shuffleboard. POPP’s runs from 10:30am to 2:30pm.
