Newhaven industrial site blaze - District council 'on standby' to provide temporary accommodation

Lewes District Council has set up a 'rest centre' after a large fire broke out at an industrial building in Newhaven this morning (Saturday, August 8).

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service confirmed firefighters were called to the blaze in Beach Road just after 9.30am, after more than 80 emergency calls. Read our live blog here and watch video footage from the scene hereLewes District Council has offered support to those affected.

A spokesperson said: "Council officers are setting up a rest centre at the Hillcrest Centre on Bay Vue Road in Newhaven in case it is required.
